Chapter 11: Blue Dragon's Fear
Chapter 11: Blue Dragon's Fear

I was going to tell you about the Blue Dragon... He comes to this island once every 10 years. The chapter opens as the three students make a visit to Glen's house, after a long time. Glen has a little something to discuss with them: every ten years, the Blue Dragon comes to this island. Just then, one of Glen's friends, Hyde, comes in--Lena recognizes Hyde as a master of Astronomical Magic. Glen asks if you'll excuse them; he'll continue the conversation with you next time. The students leave... and go around the house to listen through the window.

Hyde continues. He explains that he's attempting to create a star to spread Celestial Magic energy, but no matter how much he tries, that sort of magic is beyond his grasp. Glen counters that Hyde needs to devote a lot more time to studying the origin of the stars. Controlling the flow of time is dangerous business. Hyde suggests that Glen, being the Guardian of Time, could do most anything--Glen counters that it's not so simple, some things are beyond his control. Hyde understands, and says that he'll find another way.

Wing wonders aloud, if the Magic of Time is so complex, if he'll be able to control it himself. But Lena and Ellie encourage him. They then re-enter the house after Hyde leaves.

Wing learned the Shield spell Don't leave Glen's house. Speak with him, and he'll likely be able to teach you a few magic spells. He says that he has nothing more he can tell you right now, but suggests you speak with Steel.

My duty is to protect Ien, where the world's time gathers. Leave the island and go back to town (from Glen's cabin, go northwest, and cross the bridge; then, go due east and take the bridge north to get back to town). Speak with Steel at his desk. Lena will ask why the Blue Dragon comes to Ien once every decade. Steel doesn't really know, but he explains that he and Glen are the "Guardians of Time", who protect the flow of time. Glen's duty is to remove "Seeds of Danger" from time; while Steel's duty is to protect Ien, the gathering point for the world's time. Lena asks what the connection is between the Blue Dragon and Guardians of Time; Steel answers that, since time gathers at and flows from Ien, the Blue Dragon comes every decade to ensure that things are flowing smoothly. Looking out the window, you can even see the Blue Dragon flying towards the Star Tower east of town--and there's a crash. Glen comes in, saying that he's late--he came to see the Blue Dragon himself. Perhaps (as Hyde suggested), the Vile Tribe has come to take advantage of the Blue Dragon's arrival; Glen asks Steel to remain and protect Ien while he goes to investigate. With that, Lena says that they'll be returning to the dorm, and asks Steel not to hesitate to call them over if anything happens.

All right! Ellie! Let's hurry to the 'Star Tower'! Exit the building. Lena calls for them to head to the Star Tower; the Blue Dragon doesn't come every day, and she won't stand to just sit around being useless. Before leaving town, you may want to check with the professors again who can give you new magic spells. Also, be sure you have the best robes available (the Quintet Robe) for each of the three students. Anyway, when you're ready, exit town.

The door is open. From town, go directly east; past the island head northeast to the tower, and enter. Lena will say that they must hurry to the top of the tower, if what Glen said is right. Ellie also warns that the Vile Tribe may be spread out within the tower.

On the first floor, go northeast from the entrance for the stairwell to the next floor. On the second floor, go southwest for the stairwell to the next floor.
On the third floor, go directly north, and take the pathway that continues up. Keep going north all the way to the end, turn east, and continue down the path to the end. When the path turns south, keep going and you'll get to the next stairwell.
On the fourth floor, go directly north. Continue up the hall, take the second path that goes south, and continue to the end of the hall. Turn east and follow the hall to the next stairwell.
On the fifth floor, go northeast then continue north to the end of the hall. On the west end of the small room, pick up the Water of Light in the chest. Go back east, turn south, and take the second path that goes west. Continue along this hallway to the corner of the floor, turn west, take the next path south, turn west again, take the next path south, and continue along this hallway until you see a path branch off to the west. Go west to the other corner of the floor, turn south, and follow this path. Ignore the next way west, and continue south to a small room with a Rest Potion inside. From the chest, go a little bit up and continue west, go all the way south and you'll reach the next stairwell.
On the sixth floor, go directly north, take the first path west, then take the next path north and keep going for a Water of Protection in the chest. Go back down a little, go west, and continue along this hallway until you see the stairs to the next floor.
On the seventh floor, go west and around the corner to pick up a Wind Spirit in the chest you see. From here, go back up, continue west, keep following this path, ignore any paths that branch off to the west (continue south), and keep following the hallway to the stairs for the next floor.
On the eighth floor, go southeast and continue east along the southern wall all the way to the end. At the corner, take the second-to-last path north, and keep going until you get to a T-intersection. Turn west and continue along this path until it turns north. Take the next path you see to the east, continue to the end and turn north, then at the end go west for Chalk in the chest there. From the chest, continue back east all the way for the next stairwell.
On the ninth floor, go west all the way to the end, ignore the path that goes south for now, and continue west along the hall to pick up a Rest Potion. From the chest, go back northeast, take that path south, continue along the path until it turns east and take the path that continues south from there. Keep going down this hall until you hit a T-intersection; go west and continue around the corner when it turns back east, then take the next path south. Go west then south from there to pick up a Sun Sparkle in another chest. Go back north and continue west all the way; turn north at the end, take the next path you see west, take the next path south, then turn east at the end. Keep following this hallway until you reach the stairs.
On the tenth floor, go north, turn east, and take the next path immediately north. Continue along this hall and take the next path you see that branches off to the east. From here, turn north, and take the next path to the west. Continue along this path until it turns east; go all the way to the end until you hit a T-intersection. Turn east, continue south, and go all the way to the end to pick up a Water of Mystery. From the chest, go back north, take the next path you see west, then turn south at the end and continue east. You'll see Glen there, facing Barua.

Ellie vs Barua Go to Glen. Barua is blocking Glen's progress forward, but he doesn't have time to fight her now. Lena and Ellie intervene, and they offer to hold Barua off while Glen goes to the top floor. You'll now fight against Barua.

But then the Vile Tribe came to capture the Blue Dragon, and stole the dragon's power! After defeating her, she escapes again. Hyde is on the ground; Lena heals him and he thanks you. Hyde says that he came here to try to utilize the Blue Dragon's power--he tried to capture its power with a crystal while it was flying. But the Vile Tribe attacked while he was trying to do so, and stole the Blue Dragon's power for themselves. Lena says that they'll take care of the Vile Tribe for him, and Hyde gives you a Comet Light in return. Hyde exits.

Memphis, stop this! If you kee absorbing power like this, you're going to die! Step onto the transporter beside you. You'll find Memphis using the crystal that Hyde mentioned. Glen tries in vain to convince Memphis that he'll die if he attempts to absorb all of the Blue Dragon's power like that. Memphis, unconvinced, drives Glen back. Memphis then absorbs the Blue Dragon's power and discards the crystal outside--which returns to the form of the Blue Dragon.

The three students refuse to let Memphis go after what he did to Glen. Memphis warns them that he's now at his most powerful yet, and then he attacks.

Ellie vs Memphis For the first part of the battle, just defend and heal yourself. After a few rounds, Memphis will say that his body is disintegrating, and you'll fight him again--in a weakened state. Now it's possible to defeat him, so continue your attacks.

A blue light and a white light... After defeating Memphis, Wing sees a blue-and-white light rising from where he was. The students rush back to Glen; Lena offers to heal him, but Glen says that it's no use--his life is slipping. Glen says he's taught them all he can by now. Glen tells Wing that he should continue to learn magic from Steel, and expresses his regret that he couldn't see Ellie and Lena graduate. Glen then falls silent...

Wing, please take this ring. They hear a voice coming from outside, expressing its regret at what happened to Glen. They rush outside and see the Blue Dragon lying there, still alive. The Blue Dragon says that all his power was taken, but soon he'll return to his origins. The Blue Dragon gives the Blue Dragon Ring to Wing, saying that Glen would've wanted it that way. The Blue Dragon then says that he'll look after Glen. The Blue Dragon concludes by saying that Steel is looking for them, and they should return to town.

It's a sign that the Blue Dragon chose you, Wing, to be the Guardian of Time. The three of them go back to town and speak with Steel. He knows what happened with Glen, but says that it's not their fault. Wing shows him the ring he received from the Blue Dragon, and Steel says that this ring is the sign that Wing is now the Guardian of Time. Wing says that he's not ready for that yet--but Lena gives her lecture on how she can't stand how Wing has no self-confidence. Steel agrees, and asks Wing if he saw a blue-and-white light after Memphis was defeated; Steel explains that the light was the Flow of Time, something which only a Guardian of Time can see. So, Wing's already been chosen as a Guardian of Time. Wing accepts the responsibility and resolves to put forth his best.

On another matter, Steel says that Ellie and Lena have also been selected for a special, early graduation! In the spring, Ien will arrive at the mainland; until then they'll be free to do what they wish. Wing, meanwhile, will be receiving lessons directly from Steel henceforth, to train him to be the next Guardian of Time.

But then, Barua appears, saying that she now has the power of the Blue Dragon and the soul of the most powerful demon. Ien's days are numbered. And the curtain falls.
